Chapter Profile

Abundant
San Francisco

San Francisco is the home of innovation in the United States. Still, our municipal government struggles to translate that innovation's bounty to improve our citizens' lives. We are working with the basics of governing: housing, public safety, transportation, and services. If we can’t make government effective in San Francisco, what does that mean for liberalism?

We’ve been operating in San Francisco for the past two years. We’ve started by focusing on land use—”liberalism that builds”—both because land use issues are at the root cause of many of our biggest problems and because land use inherently involves fewer state capacity bottlenecks than systems like public safety, health, or education

Things we do/have done:

  • We launched a monthly leadership cohort program that’s helped 100+ SF residents get involved in local civic work.
  • We helped pass Prop J, ending a decades-long battle for a key piece of public infrastructure, JFK Promenade.
  • We helped streamline housing approvals, protecting them from baseless vetoes while protecting workers wages.
  • We helped elect 18 new leaders to the San Francisco Democratic Party.

Next, we are working to:

  • Clear the path to 3x homebuilding in San Francisco to 10,000+ units a year to build 100,000 new homes for San Franciscans.
  • Increase the State Capacity of San Francisco transportation (SFMTA).
  • 10x the number of SF residents we train via our monthly leadership cohort program.
  • Help elect 3 abundance-aligned leaders to the Board of Supervisors.
